CIT-U Wildcats Pull Away from USJ-R Jaguars, 71–55, in CESAFI Collegiate Action

CEBU CITY — The Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildcats used a strong second half to defeat the University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars, 71–55, in CESAFI collegiate basketball action Sunday at the Cebu Coliseum. 

USJ-R held a slim 17–15 advantage after the first quarter and remained ahead, 32–31, at halftime. CIT-U turned the game around after the break, outscoring the Jaguars 16–10 in the third quarter before closing with a 24–13 fourth quarter to secure the 16-point victory. 

Garryl Dave Layaguin led the Wildcats in scoring with 17 points, knocking down all three of his three-point attempts while adding four rebounds and two assists. 

Braebon Ali Thompson delivered the most complete performance for CIT-U, finishing with 15 points, nine rebounds, four assists, two steals, and one block. He posted a game-high 27 efficiency rating. John Eimrod Rodulfa also contributed 13 points, including three triples. 

For USJ-R, Christian Carl Sollano carried the Jaguars with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds, while also recording two assists, two steals, and two blocks. Alcher Obra added eight points, five rebounds, two blocks, and a steal. 

CIT-U shot an efficient 50.9 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from three-point range, while limiting USJ-R to 33.9 percent shooting overall. The Wildcats also held a 38–34 rebounding advantage and received 32 points from their bench.  

The contest featured eight lead changes and five ties, but CIT-U took control in the second half and eventually built its largest lead to 17 points.
